Beginners Training Course

Please read this information to make sure the course is suitable for your needs.

The course runs over two Saturdays, the 14th and 28th March 2026. Each day will last from 10:00am to 4:00pm in Rainhill. There will also be a practical session arranged for mid-to-late April when the temperature permits (a bee suit will be provided but you will need to bring washing-up gloves and wellies).

The course is aimed at those who want to start keeping honey bees and covers:

  • honey bee lifecycle and biology
  • honey bee diseases and their treatments
  • equipment needed to start a colony of honey bees
  • locating your hive
  • colony management (the beekeeping year)
  • swarms and swarm prevention
  • obtaining honey and other – products of the hive

The cost is £115 per person and includes membership to the Liverpool and Merseyside Beekeepers’ Association (LBKA) up to November 2026. Membership includes regular branch meetings, BBKA membership, insurance and monthly magazine.

We are limited in the number of places on the course and we can only accept applications from those over the age of 16.
