Branch Honey Show

LIVERPOOL & DISTRICT BRANCH HONEY SHOW 2015

Saturday, 7th November, 2015

Honey Secretary’s Report
The Liverpool & District Branch Honey Show was held at the St Anne’s Millenium Centre Rainhill, on Saturday 7th November 2015. A total of eleven exhibitors entered 73 exhibits, although, once again, I had to ring a few members to try to boost the numbers. Although many of the awards went to the ‘Old Hands’, the ‘veterans’ of the various honey shows through the year, from Southport Flower Show in August, through the Lancashire & NW Members’ Show in October, to our show which is usually in November, it was pleasing to see a few different names winning firsts.

I know some people did not have a good year for the honey harvest, but honey keeps and, for most classes, it does not have to be this year’s honey that is entered. Also the class for the honey fruit cake states it must contain honey. Unlike the honey classes, it does not have to be the members own honey. Usually it is, but in the case of a bad year, you can use another honey. This means that, even in a poor year, you can enter a honey cake. The photography class is also a good fall back as the photo can be taken anytime in the year as long as it is about beekeeping and is educational / informative.

The Show went off very well whilst the Annual General Meeting was taking place next door. The Judge was Alan Woodward of Doncaster. After the AGM the Show opened for members to see the results at 4.00pm. Mr Woodward then summed up his findings and thanked the Branch for inviting him.

The trophies were awarded, Mr Woodward was thanked for his services and also Dave Harrison for assisting in setting up the Hall, Sheila Myron for writing the cards and paying the prize monies, and the members for attending and exhibiting, for without them we would not have a show.

The Show closed at 5.00pm.
